So, I finally got around to reading The Devil in the White City. The parts about the serial killer H. H. Holmes inspired conversation and speculation, but perhaps as an homage to my hopelessness, it was the story of The White City that really got me. I like history and obviously like cities. 




While reading the book I kept asking, "Where's The White City? I was just flipping channels and came across a news story about suburban Oak Lawn. My attention was peaked when the news reader said, "And the Mayor hadn't been drinking. " It seems Oak Lawn Mayor Dave Heilmann came up with a scheme hoping to get drivers to stop at stop signs.

The scheme, that's right, post absurd stop signs. I was delighted to learn that la femme behind chocolateandzucchini was presented an ice cream maker for her birthday. So over-joyed was she, that she pretty immediately whipped-up a sorbet mangue. You know, I root for Bat for Lashes. When I come across a review — I read it, a new single — I listen. I mean, the girl is a self-styled Lost Boy, but ultimately, the music's a little too singer-songwriter for my liking, albeit with superior instrumentation.

All that said, I do enjoy What's a Girl to Do.
